Jai Soni, an ambitious A-level student from Beckfoot School, recently embarked on his first work experience at NewRedo. Jai came to NewRedo with a clear goal in mind: to build his confidence through hands-on experience in a professional environment. “My primary objective this week was to step out of my comfort zone and improve my confidence,” Jai shared.

Over the course of a week, Jai delved into the engineering department, gaining invaluable insights under the mentorship of Principal Engineer Alan Raison. From attending team stand-ups to engaging in real-world projects, Jai's journey was a blend of learning, growth, and inspiration. This day-by-day recount showcases his experiences and NewRedo's commitment to nurturing young talent and social value initiatives.

Day 1: Welcoming and Orientation Jai's week at NewRedo kicked off with a warm welcome from CEO Royd Brayshay. He was introduced to the company’s ways of working and attended his first team stand-up. After a comprehensive building induction and a tour of the facilities, Jai participated in discussions about health and safety policies. The afternoon was spent with Principal Engineer Alan Raison and Head of Business Development Jonathan Trepczyk, where Jai was introduced to his assignments for the week. The day concluded with a review and feedback session with Alan.

Day 2: Immersing in the Engineering Team The second day began with Jai meeting Chad Oertel, one of NewRedo’s software developers. Chad shared insights into his daily tasks and responsibilities, giving Jai a glimpse into the life of a software engineer. After the morning stand-up, Jai continued working on his projects under Alan's supervision. The day wrapped up with another feedback session, helping Jai reflect on his progress.

Day 3: Expanding Horizons Jai’s third day was packed with more interactions and learning opportunities. He started the morning with a remote meeting with Archana Battini, a Software Developer in Test, who shared her experience and the importance of testing in software development. This provided Jai with a broader perspective on the diverse roles within the engineering department and our flexible working practices. The afternoon was dedicated to continuing his tasks, with Alan providing guidance and end-of-day feedback.

Day 4: Real-World Impact On the fourth day, Jai had the unique opportunity to meet Tom Matthews from Love Exploring, a NewRedo customer. This meeting was particularly insightful as Jai learned about the practical applications of engineering projects in the real world. The day continued with more project work, with Alan mentoring Jai through the complexities of the tasks at hand. The daily review session allowed Jai to assess his contributions and prepare for the final day.

Day 5: Culmination and Reflection Jai’s final day at NewRedo was all about bringing everything together. He spent the morning finalising his projects and preparing for a presentation and demo session in the afternoon. During the presentation, Jai showcased his work, receiving feedback from the team. The week concluded with a catch-up session where Jai shared his experiences and reflections.

Reflecting on his experience, Jai expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “This week has been an eye-opening experience. I’ve learned so much from Alan and the team, not just about engineering but also about how our work can make a real difference. It’s been incredibly inspiring,” Jai shared.

NewRedo remains dedicated to fostering young talent and contributing to social value through initiatives like these. “We are passionate about nurturing the next generation of engineers. Jai’s time with us highlights the importance of engaging with our community and investing in the future,” said Royd Brayshay, CEO of NewRedo.

As Jai moves forward in his studies, we at NewRedo are confident that the skills and experiences he gained during his week with us will serve as a strong foundation for his future. We look forward to welcoming you back to the team after your studies.
